Values

Dr Charles T. Gray, Datapunk founded the Good Enough Data & Systems Lab with two purposes.

What the lab is

This Lab is for those care about structured intelligence governance, mathematically defined ethics for what the zeitgeist means when they say artificial intelligence and technological singularity.

Humanity needs choose Chaotic Good, because we cannot deny the chaotic systems we exist in any longer, and ungoverned, evils proliferate. Because I have critical theory, chaos, logic, and data simulation training I see it. I need everyone else to see it, too.

This is the Miranda that has burned up my brain.

And I aim to misbehave.

What the lab is not

The Lab is opposed to ungoverned, developer-traumatising, flashy AI/ML-hype proof of concept hacks that immediately break.

Founding of the Lab

In 2007, founder Dr. Charles T. Gray—Datapunk—set out to live her ikigai:

  • What she can get paid for
  • What the world needs
  • What she loves doing
  • What she is good at

She tried both the academic research ladder and industry roles, but the disruption of computational scale made both paths unworkable for a woman of colour. What Works for Women at Work devotes an entire chapter to this. Since she couldn’t find a safe place to do the data science the world needs, she built one.

She now lives her ikigai.
